Bangkok Cat Society is preparing to launch regular mobile cat sterilization clinics serving central Bangkok. These clinics will be designed to expand access to sterilization through a sliding scale model.

People with very limited financial resources will be able to access services for free. Others who can afford to contribute will pay a reduced and reasonable amount. The goal is to make sterilization accessible across the entire community, not just for one segment of the population.

Right now, sterilization in Bangkok typically costs 3,000 to 4,000 baht per cat. That is roughly 85 to 115 USD or 80 to 105 euros.

To understand why this creates a barrier, consider the economic reality. Many working-class Thais earn 350 to 500 baht per day depending on their job.

For someone earning those wages, sterilizing even one cat can equal nearly a full week of income. For caregivers responsible for multiple cats, the cost quickly becomes impossible.

And cost is only part of the challenge.

Caregivers must also catch the cats, transport them to clinics, take time off work, and manage recovery after surgery. For many people, these barriers make sterilization inaccessible even when they want to do the right thing.

This is not unique to Thailand. Many cities around the world face the same gap between the need for sterilization and the availability of affordable services.

Mobile clinics are one of the most effective ways to close that gap.

By bringing veterinarians and surgical equipment directly into communities, large numbers of cats can be sterilized efficiently and at lower cost.

Bangkok Cat Society has already organized several successful clinics and sterilized over 1,000 cats in the Khlong Toei area in recent years.

Now we are preparing to expand this work with more frequent clinics and a sustainable access model that allows communities to participate at different economic levels.

More details will be announced soon.

Because stabilizing cat populations is one of the most powerful ways to improve the lives of both cats and the communities they live in.
